Learner's Tips
Be Careful!
To give someone a hand has two meanings. It can also mean to clap for someone.
Example
"The performers did a great job. Let's give them a hand!"
Think About It
Put the expression into practice!
Think of three situations today when you could ask someone for help. For example:
You need help carrying something.
You need help with your computer.
You need help finding something.
Now say a sentence for each situation using:
"Can you give me a hand with...?"
For example:
"Can you give me a hand with these boxes?"
Try to say your sentences out loud, not just in your head. If you get the opportunity, use the expression in a real conversation this week.
